Tips and Suggestions for Homemade Pet Odor Removal

Author: Michael Louis

Although its entirely possible for homemade pet odor removal solutions to become effective, theres also a good chance that it wont work.

PREVENTION IS STILL THE BEST CURE

And we should know by now that old sayings tend to be true, even if we dont want them to be. The best way to remove pet odor from your domicile is preventing it from invading your home in the first place.

Potty training is more difficult for pets than kids because animals, no matter how strong your bond is with your pet, can never completely understand what youre talking about. There is a lot of free advice in the Internet that could help you effectively housebreak your pets. The most important rule to keep in mind however is not to get angry at your pets for forgetting their lessons. Such reactions are senseless, cruel and unnecessary. Be patient and we can guarantee that youll be able to succeed in time.

PEROXIDE CLEANING

If you thought that peroxide was primarily used for wounds, it can now eliminate pet odors as well. Simply mix peroxide and water then apply it to the stained area with a sponge. Its very important to do this while the stain or odor is still fresh as older ones are more difficult to clean.

DISHWASHING ALA PET ODOR

The recipe for this homemade pet odor removal solution is as follows: 1 quart of water, several drops of dishwashing liquid and two tablespoons of vinegar. Mix well then serve to the stained area. Make sure that all soiled and odor-pervaded areas are treated. Again, experts advise to serve this solution right after the creation of the stain. If the stain has already dried out, theres a good chance that the damage and odor resulting from it are irreparable.

KEEP YOUR DOG HOUSE CLEAN

If your little Chihuahua is keeping residence in the living room with its miniature one-room mansion, you should know that your living arrangement is probably the cause of your homes distinctive scent even if your pet is highly trained. If possible, clean your pets home several times a week. Give it a thorough cleaning which means you should go beyond your usual dust-off-here-wash-some-there-routine.

BORAX FOR BED DAMAGE

Lets say your pet had accidentally unless you have reasons to believe it was intentional stained your bed and caused it to smell unpleasantly. When this happens, you should immediately sprinkle borax all over the stained area and rub it continuously. Wait for it to dry then use your vacuum or a simple brush to get rid of the dry particles remaining. Afterwards, youll see that the process has effectively neutered the odor emanating from the stain. This solution also works when your bed stain is caused by other sources and when you want to get rid of the smell of sour milk.

MAKE IT UNENJOYABLE This is more of a preventative solution to your problem. To reduce the chances of your pet causing your home to smell worse than it already is, choose fabrics for your cover beds, tablecloths, curtains and sofa covers that youre sure will irritate your pet.

CLEANING THE DIRTIER THAN USUAL FRONT DOOR RUG

If your front door rug suddenly became your pets toilet, send it back to the washing machine but this time accompanied with approximately 1 pound of baking soda besides your usual detergent. Air-dry immediately afterwards.
