Power of The Word

Author: Tyler Benson

The role of words is indeed significant. And although people tend to say that 'Actions speak louder than words' sometimes a single word can alter the whole situation and lead to very serious consequences. Actually words can hurt a lot and, similarly, they can provide a strong incentive and motivate. Words turn into powerful instruments which can be used for different purposes and bring different results and effects.

So, how should we organize our verbal communication with other people? There is hardly a need to explain the role of communication, because the outcomes of our communication with others quite often determine our life course, let alone daily activities. In order to make those outcomes most positive and fruit bearing, regarding from different perspectives, you should really think well how you verbally interact with others. Every person has his or her own set of tools, words used in the course of verbal communication which can be called as 'a manner of communication' or 'style of communication'. Due to the fact that all people are different, their manners are also different. Still, there are some traits which allow defining some basic manners of communication. First of all we should see what words dominate in someone's speech. Whether those words are mild, pleasant or whether they are harsh and radical. Obviously, people of the first type are more comfortable to talk to, because they do not leave a negative feeling after communication, unlike the latter type of people. People of the first type quite often may use compliments in their speech. You may often hear lots of polite forms of expression, like 'what you say is really interesting but'', 'I appreciate your viewpoint, although have a bit different perception on how things go'' etc. So, even disagreement is expressed in such a way that demonstrates maximum respect and only positive attitude. It is good when you can find what pleasant to say about some person. Some people just do not know what to say of others in nice terms, which is more characteristic of themselves rather than of the others. Learn to find something extraordinary and attractive in any person, because there is definitely something. Moreover, learn to express your admiration, without a fear of being misunderstood. Sure, you should never cross the line of tolerance and tactfulness. These recommendations may seem evident, on the one hand, and impossible to implement in daily life, on the other hand. The easiest way to implement them is be sincere in awareness that what we say has consequences because it touches other people. It takes several words to insult someone, but it may take months to retrieve respect and trust to those who insulted. There is a truthful Chinese saying, 'A bad word whispered will echo a hundred miles'.

Just mind this simple sentence each time you want to say anything to people around you. Each of us is powerful, despite our weight or physical strength; we are empowered with word and the way we use our 'word' power indicates our internal characteristics and our essence.
